The Academy awards scholarships to applicants who are planning to pursue their postgraduate studies in law, on the basis of their ability to contribute to the development of the law and the legal system, and to the growth and learning of the legal profession in Singapore. For the academic years 2008/2009 and 2009/2010, the SAL Scholarship will only be offered to Academy members who are under 40 years of age and who are pursuing postgraduate studies in law for the NYU@NUS Dual Graduate Degree Programme in Singapore.

The Academy scholars are not bonded to SAL, but are required to serve for a period of five years in institutions approved by the Academy. Scholars are also expected to take an active role in the Academy programmes, upon successful completion of their studies.
