The Strategic Planning Retreat was organised by the Strategic Planning Committee in December 2005 to develop a strategic plan for the Academy, with appropriate recommendations for adoption by the Executive Committee. The Committee was chaired by the Honourable Justice V K Rajah.

At the retreat, trends affecting the legal profession in Singapore were identified, appraised and addressed. Broad-level objectives and future steps to be taken by the Academy were identified to meet the challenges of the legal sector.

The Retreat examined the work output and practices of the various Committees of the Academy, and proceeded to outline suggestions as well as make specific recommendations. Suggestions were made to modify the administrative practices, including, significantly, a renewal process for the membership of the Academy’s Committees.

The recommendations as well as the other issues and discussions which arose from the retreat, were collated into the Strategic Planning Retreat Final Report. The Executive Committee considered and endorsed that report in June 2006, and an implementation committee has been formed with the specific mandate of bringing the suggested initiatives to fruition.
