Continuing legal education for the legal profession is provided through numerous conferences and seminars offered throughout the year. These sessions serve to update members on developments in the law and legal procedure. Intensive courses are also organised to introduce participants to new areas of the law.

The Legal Development Fund (LDF) was established in 2001 to fund courses and initiatives in new areas of the law and legal practice. The fund has been used for the following programs and purposes:

  • SAL Visiting Fellows Program

  • Conferences and seminars in new areas of the law

  • Law reform studies and the review of policy in new areas of the law

  • Scholarships to young lawyers pursuing postgraduate studies in new areas of the law

The aim of these monthly lunchtime talks is to keep members abreast of current affairs and issues of general interests. Speakers well-versed in areas such as politics, finance and other law or non-law topics are invited to share from their knowledge and experiences. Participants also get to socialise and network over buffet lunches. These sessions often conclude with lively 'Question and Answer' sessions.
