LawNet is a service provided by the
Singapore Academy of Law, in tandem with
content providers such as the
Attorney-General's Chambers, and
the Singapore Judiciary, the
Supreme
Court and
Subordinate Courts.
LawNet is a subscription portal that caters
to the research and legal information needs
of the legal community of Singapore. Since
its inception in 1988 as a dial up network
access provider,
www.lawnet.com.sg has grown in
leaps and bounds, adding information,
applications and databases to suit the
evolving needs of legal practitioners,
corporate counsel, paralegals, law academics
and law students.

The LawNet Secretariat under the Academy,
provides day-to-day management and
formulation and proposal of policy to the
LawNet Management Committee. CrimsonLogic is
the technology partner through which policy
and direction is implemented.
It is a core philosophy of the LawNet
Secretariat to continually upgrade, revise
and augment the range of value-added
services, technology and information to
maintain the Singapore legal industry’s
competitive edge in online research and

LawNet2 launched in July 2007 is a complete
revamp of the legal IT network that is
currently used by more than 70% of lawyers
in Singapore. It has a variety of new
features and content. The key enhancements
of the new portal include a wider repository
of databases including the addition of
English case law in the legal research
module. A revamped Legal Research module
provides a more user-friendly user interface
and enables a single search to be made
across various databases. Users can also
browse cases and reference materials by
catchwords. The rich cross referencing and
seamless links between Malaysian, Singapore
and English cases and additional tools such
as Client Tracker (a basic practice
management time-keeping tool for billing),
saved searches, reminders and e-mails alerts
help users manage their time and conduct
research more efficiently.
The Litigation and BizNet modules are now
combined into a new Due Diligence module
which provides users with a one-stop
solution for their due diligence needs. |
