The
Promotion of
Singapore Law
Committee
promotes the
international
profile of Singapore
law and Singapore as
a centre for dispute
resolution, and
seeks to market
Singapore as a legal
solutions hub in
general. In April
2007, it organised
in Mumbai a dinner
presentation, themed
“Singapore: Your
Partner for Legal
Solutions Outside
India”, hosted by
the then-Chair of the
Promotion of
Singapore Law
Committee, Judge
of Appeal Justice V
K Rajah, and
attended by Mr
Tharman
Shanmugaratnam, the
then-Minister for
Education and Second
Minister for Finance
of Singapore.
Marketing efforts
have borne fruit
with the endorsement
of the use of
Singapore law as
governing law of
contracts and
Singapore as a
dispute-resolution
venue, whenever
neutral law and
venue were required,
by segments of the
legal and business
communities of
China, India and
Indonesia. These
include four major
Indian organisations
– Agri Trade India
Services Pvt Ltd ,
Indian Merchants’
Chamber,
Multi Commodity
Exchange of India
Ltd and
Transworld Group,
which signed a
Statement of
Endorsement
indicating their
support for the
above.
The
Promotion of
Singapore Law
Committee has
created the
SingaporeLaw
website which
provides write-ups,
in English, Mandarin
and Bahasa Indonesia
on the laws of
Singapore relevant
to business and
dispute resolution.
This website also
carries the latest
legal news reported
on the
Singapore Law Watch.
It has attracted a
continuously
increasing
viewership since its
inception, from
countries such as
the US, UK, Malaysia
and China.
The system for
selecting and
disseminating key
Singapore judgments
for publication in
reputable law
reports and journals
overseas is
administered and
managed by the
International
Promotion of
Singapore Law
Directorate. |
