The Singapore Mediation Centre, which is a company limited by the guarantee of the Academy, provides ADR services (such as mediation and adjudication) and ADR training (for instance, in negotiation, mediation and conflict management). Since its inception in 1997, the SMC has evolved into a reputable accreditation body for mediators, adjudicators and neutral evaluators. In addition, it promotes Singapore as a centre for mediation and dispute resolution in Asia. The SMC has particular strengths as a training expert in the fields of negotiation, mediation and conflict management in Singapore and the region, and its instruction has consistently received high feedback ratings for responsiveness and practicality. This reputation has generated training opportunities in Austria, Cambodia, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, the Philippines and Thailand. The SMC also seeks to exercise thought leadership in the realm of mediation and conflict resolution, through its activities such as the hosting of the International Negotiation Competition, and its founding role in alliances that promote mediation and its study such as the International Mediation Institute (the “IMI”) and the Asian Mediation Association (the “AMA”). Clients of the SMC include Government Ministries and Departments, tertiary institutions, professional and trade associations, law firms and business organisations, both in Singapore and abroad. The SMC has deep sector-specific competencies in construction, medical, technology and, more recently, sport mediation.
