The Singapore Academy of Law through its Legal Heritage Committee has an active programme to document and showcase Singapore’s legal heritage.

Our legal heritage work is carried out through the following projects:

Oral History

The Academy works in partnership with the Oral History Centre, National Archives of Singapore on an ongoing project to conduct oral history interviews with individuals who have shaped or witnessed Singapore’s transition from a colonial legal framework to a legal system with a national identity.
To access the transcripts of completed interview, contact the National Archives Reading Room at +65 6332 7909.

Exhibitions

As part of an outreach programme, the Academy organised two public exhibitions to display photographs, rare legal documents and artefacts relating to Singapore legal history. Click here for the brochure produced during our Legal Legacies: The Story of Singapore Law Exhibition.

Heritage Publications

Singapore’s legal history has also been documented in several books published by Academy Publishing under its Heritage Series. Topics include the history of law reporting, the development of the land and registration system and the history of the Singapore Legal Service. Visit our e-bookshop to check out the Heritage titles.
