KEYNOTE ADDRESS

Board literature has largely focused on financial performance as a measure of a firm’s performance. However, boards of directors are becoming alive to balancing stakeholder interests, which involves not just purely financial concerns but environmental, social, and governance concerns, too. Around the world, governments and businesses are considering corporate governance reforms related to diversity and emerging issues such as sustainability. Meanwhile, though not a new issue, the role of independent directors is being given increased attention as a necessary component of good governance. Professor Poonam Puri will tie these concepts together, bringing in comparative examples from different markets, including Canada and Australia.
