Supreme Court Auditorium, Basement 2, 1 Supreme Court Lane, Singapore (178879)
11 October 2018

Lecture Title - The Singapore Academy of Law: An Essential Dedication to Honour and Service

Synopsis

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Singapore Academy of Law, The Honourable the Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon has been invited to deliver the 25th Annual Lecture. Chief Justice Menon will begin with a retrospective reflection tracing the arc of the Academy’s development and how this has paralleled the transformation of the legal profession as a whole, as it has sought to adapt and reinvent itself in order to cope with the demands of a world which has changed dramatically over the course of the last three decades, and brought us to where we are today. Reflecting deeply on the motto of the Academy, honor est in honorante, he will discuss the importance of the value of honour to the legal profession, and the ways in which honour has served as its lodestar. Chief Justice Menon will then look ahead and discuss the challenges the profession will likely face in the years to come and outline how the Academy will remain relevant and even essential to their resolution.
