Introducing A Statutory Variation Of Trusts Jurisdiction

Always revitalising and evolving

About the project

The Singapore Academy of Law’s Law Reform Committee recommends that Singapore should enact a Variation of Trusts Act modelled on the United Kingdom’s Variation of Trusts Act 1957 (6 & 7 Eliz II, c 53) with certain modifications to confer jurisdiction on the High Court to approve consensual variations of trusts where these will benefit beneficiaries who are unable to consent to the variation. The adoption of such a statute will modernise the law of trusts and make Singapore a more attractive trust jurisdiction.
